I left my Sekonic somewhere in rural Ohio last fall
by just setting it down. Now, when out shooting,
my meter string (lanyard?) is tied to the tripod.

Hi Bob,
it's not so much the worry of having stuff stolen while I'm wearing
it, it's the chance of it going missing if I have to put it down for any
reason. My mother had her 50's vintage Agfa Silette stolen while in Scotland
about 10 years ago. The camera was replaceable, but the film in the camera
had shots from an archeological dig that they had helped out on the previous
week. It's very easy to get distracted when you're on holiday in a new
environment and some of the places will be touristy enough to attract the
odd thief .
