I took a short break today and learned that Electronics Servicenter in downtown
Philly, which was an excellent and very accessible shop, is out of business.
The closest repair shops are a half-hour drive away.

So, after some quick online research, I ordered a Yamaha R-S500 receiver...
from B&H.  It will hook up to my Pioneer PL-12D turntable and EPI 100 speakers
just fine, and if I ever get an iPod or iPhone it will hook up to them, too.

Thanks to all who commented.

i am no whiz, but i would guess that the Advent 300 would be all discrete
components and sort of simple to fix; haven't needed to find out since mine
still works right good
