I have an APO-Rodagon, and it compares very well with the Componon.
However, both lenses were hand-picked, so they may be at the upper end
of what can be expected from these lenses. IAC, the APO -Rodagon is a
good lens - Ctein put the 80/4.0 in his list of "winners" There is no
Nikon 75/80 mm lens in the winner's circle.
Comments on the APO-Rodagon:
Optimum F-stop - 5.6 (for 6x6 negs)
Falloff in stops 0.25
Fair-good contrast wide open, very good at 5.6. Large
longitudinal color, other aberrations negligible
The 80/4.0 Componon-S is not recommended for 6x7 negs due to excessive
light fall off.
Overall, the Rodagon is a better-rated lens than the Componon in the
80mm/4.0 category.
NOTE: These results relate to how the lenses perform for Med Format.
The results would be different when using the lenses for 35mm format.
