Dave, you have LR 2 point something, right?
Purchase the upgrade. During installation it will ask you for your new
key (from in the box or in your email if you buy it for download) and
your old key (ie the 2.x one you are upgrading from). No need to do any
intermediate installs. For all intents it's a full install.
BTW: if order LR3 from adobe.com for download, use the SAVE2010 code (at
the top of your shopping cart summary) and you'll save some dough ($50 I
think).
BTW #2: your 21" iMac is $100 off today if you buy it from Apple (store
or shipped). But today only.

I'm happy to report I just got LR3 for $109.30. The discounts add up: I got
30% off for buying LR3 along with a PS CS5 upgrade, then a further $100 off
for using the code SAVE2010. *Plus* the PS CS5 upgrade was reduced by $50
(to $149) by the same code.
So Godfrey's right: don't delay, folks. :)
