I shoot RAW, so the k-5s rendering settings don't come into play. I do a preliminary render in ACR and a final in PhotoShop. Because the brightness and contrast of the monitor on my laptop varies with the viewing angle, I depend a lot on the histogram for fine tuning these days. But I should have my computer back in a day or two, and I'll take another look at photos I've processed since then. In regard to RAW files from the K-5, i find that they have more room on both ends of the histogram than did files from the K-7, K20 or earlier Pentax DSLRs. Thus, they do need to be expanded a bit, or they will look flat. The histo of the lady's portrait now fills the range thanks to stretching of midrange contrast in ACR and resetting of the white point in levels. I also tweaked midrange brightness in levels.
