I shoot RAW, so the k-5s rendering settings don't come into play. I do a 
preliminary render in ACR and a final in PhotoShop. Because the brightness and 
contrast of the monitor on my laptop varies with the viewing angle, I depend a 
lot on the histogram for fine tuning these days. But I should have my computer 
back in a day or two, and I'll take another look at photos I've processed since 
then. 

In regard to RAW files from the K-5, i find that they have more room on both 
ends of the histogram than did files from the K-7, K20 or earlier Pentax DSLRs. 
Thus, they do need to be expanded a bit, or they will look flat. The histo of 
the lady's portrait now fills the range thanks to stretching of midrange 
contrast in ACR and resetting of the white point in levels. I also tweaked 
midrange brightness in levels.
