Hi Peter,

As to your three questions:

1 and 2 (combined) Yes, it is not uncommon in Spotmatics, which also have a
separate cam or gear or whatever system for slow speeds, so the slow speeds can
gum up, while the fast speeds remain fine. I ~think~ that it can sometimes be
solved (in Spots, at least) with a CLA, but unfortunately, it also sometimes means
that one of the gears or cams or whatever is worn, and needs replacement. I don't
know how to tell the difference.

3. Okay, as I told the list a couple of weeks ago, I just got my first MX. The
mirror hung up. Turned out that it was really the shutter hanging (on all speeds)
intermittently, causing the mirror to stay up as the shutter stopped mid-stream.
I brought it into Kominek's here in Toronto. They said it probably needs a CLA,
and that's all. Oh yeah, needed new seals, too (I knew that). Estimate $150
Canadian for the CLA plus $18Cdn for the seals. Said it would take 3 to 4 weeks.
It was ready in a week, at the advertised price, and it seems to work great!
Plus, they have a 6 month warranty. Since I mentioned the mirror, and they wrote
that on the bill, if it turns out the CLA wasn't the problem, and it starts
hanging again, it's covered.

Anyway, I'm sure these guys aren't geographically convenient for you, but I highly
recommend them. They've done work on my Spots as well, and I've always been
satisfied. If you want to ship to them or whatever, here they are:

Hope you find a good shop, 'cause I'm sure that a CLA would do it, or since you
have a parts cam, you wouldn't pay much for parts...

regards,
frank
