The battery locking system is pretty secure but if it breaks, the batteries would simply fall out....." On my *ist D, there is a circular battery compartment holding a flat quarter size battery as well as the regular batteries. That is the one I was referring to. I checked on DP Review and the pictures of the DS and the DL showed no such battery compartment on them. So I answered my own question. Thanks to you both for sending your thoughts.
