No it is not a bird, just a bird shaped shadow created by the waves around a small rock.

It is possibly not as sharp as it should be. This is one of the reasons I subsequently bought a 21mm Limited lens for these type of shots.

I agree. It would be hard to have something in the foreground big enough to complement Elephant Rock short of a life size statue of Godzilla. Mind you, a photo of a life sized statue of Godzilla on the beach would totally rock, but is almost certainly beyond the scope of any of the people on this list.

I particularly like the reflections of the rock and the colors of the sky off the wet sand.

What is the bird in the foreground?

On my monitor the photo does not look to be quite as sharp as it could be.
