Saw one in Alaska in 1992... scurrying across the road in front of our car.... I didn't know it - but Richard said ooh you know what that was? That was a Fisher. Nope, I was not ready with the camera... it really is exciting to see something like that, even if you can't get THE shot ... so thanks for sharing, PJ
and the sky in the photo and branches are kinda pretty anyway

So this isn't a great photograph, in fact it might not even be a good photograph, but it's the content.

This is a Fisher, or "Fisher Cat" if you live in Maine. It's the largest member of the weasel* family (AFIK), until you get to the wolverine. This is a rare shot partly because they're a nocturnal animal, (and apparently camera shy as this one saw me about 100 yards away and ducked behind the tree trunk, only poking his head out so that I could get this single shot).

Equipment: Pentax K20D w/Kalamar 500mm mirror telephoto f8.0

Notes: This is about the center 1/3 of the frame, down res-ing helped it alot, but you still gotta love that donut bokah, the focus wasn't perfect either so sue me.

*I would say this is the biggest weasel that I've ever seen, but unfortunately one of the senators from my state is Christopher Dodd.
