Christine, I am thinking that:
1. As a immediate response you might point them to
http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com and indicate that all photos therein
are made with Pentax gear.
2. As a midterm response you might have to bring in some of your
favorite photographs printed, say in A3 size to show them that the light
goes more or less in the same manner through you gear as it does through
theirs.
3. As a longterm response you might simply point out that it is not the
gear who makes the shot, but the photographer, so that if you give Canon
1D MK IV or Nikon D3S or whatever to a chimpanzee, it is unlikely to
produce stellar pictures just by virtue of the label thereupon.
