Hi folks, I spent a little time this weekend scanning some negatives on my flatbed scanner. I decided ahead of time to try cleaning the back surface of the glass. Even when this scanner was brand new out of the box, the glass surface looked noticeably hazy when its built-in lamp was turned on. Getting the glass out was easy, and cleaning was also easy (Windex and clean paper towels). The tricky part is getting the glass mounted back into the scanner before an airborne fiber or dust particle gets onto the back surface. Anyone have advice on the best way to either prevent or dissipate static buildup on glass surfaces like this? I've seen cloths in camera stores that are supposed to prevent static buildup. Do these work? Any particular brand? I've also seen small brushes with embedded polonium, and I know these are used on laboratory analytical balances. Anyone use these for photo work? And what about the old trick of wiping the glass with a used fabric softener sheet from a clothes dryer?
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bill Peifer Rochester, NY - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Don't forget to visit the Pentax Users' Gallery at http://pug.komkon.org .
