Thanks for the reply, Sasha! What you described is exactly why I was leaning towards one of Zack's workshops. When he went "pro" he pretty much only had his camera and a Vivitar 285. I like that. Joe is sponsored by Nikon and probably drops more $5,000 bodies in a year than we'll own in our lifetime. That's fine, he has access to all this equipment, so why not use it to his advantage? But as *I* don't have access to it (I own 1.5 flashes!) I'd like to learn from someone who understands my limitations. Limitations, by the way, that are shared by most of us amateurs.
A golf bag, huh? I was looking at a messenger bag in T.J. Maxx (an outlet store in the US) the other day; it had all these pockets to fit strobes and small (Pentax!) lenses in. For $20 it was better than many dedicated camera bags, and it didn't shout CAMERA BAG! either :-) --M. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- http://www.EnticingTheLight.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 2009/7/31 Sasha Sobol <[email protected]>: > Thanks, Miserere! > I think it well worth the money . > > And I should have mentioned that Zack and Joe have are very different > on money issues: > Zack would tell you not to buy anything that you do not need right now. > And to seek for cheap alternatives. > For example he uses a cheap golf bag instead of a a dedicated photo > bag, because it is few times cheaper and it does what it should do. > Same thing with lighting - Zack will almost always use a single light. > Only if he feels that the subject calls for additional lights he will > add more very carefully. > Joe has top-notch equipment and his lighting schemes are usually > quite complicated, I doubt he often shoots with a single light. > So at Zack's workshop you can learn howto use a single light, how to > play with modifiers. > At Joe's workshop you can try a lot of different cool thing - soft > boxes, reflectors, flashes, diffusers.... > I am very happy that I attended those workshops in this order: first > Zack, next Joe. > And I was about to chose one it would be Zack's. > But both are excellent! > > --Sasha -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
