Hi all, I'm back from my holiday. Spent two days cycling from Hanmer to Blenheim through Molesworth Station (a private unsealed road) which was a real slog. I carried the following kit on the back of the bike: Pentax 67 with 45mm lens Pentax digital spot meter Pentax K2 with 43mm Limited and FA100/2.8 Macro lenses Accessories: hood for 45mm lens, pen, pocket knife, film etc. All stashed into a Lowepro Nova 3 (took a while to figure out how to make it fit).
It took me a while to decide between the 43mm and the SMCP35/3.5 but I decided I wanted the extra speed, which ended up coming in handy during the sunset at the campground. I had plenty of photo opportunities but we were pretty pressed for time while cycling so I didn't get much of a chance to take pictures. A roll of 120 and a few frames of 35mm :( It would have been nice to take at least 4 days to do that trip but you're not allowed to camp on the station itself (about the first 60km of a total 180km). Spent the next few days recovering (my first long-distance ride; boy was I sore) then carried the same kit over to Wellington where we spent two nights, and saw the Lord of the Rings movie on new year's day in the Embassy theatre (which is far better than the stupid multiplexes down here). They'd just installed a new screen and the print was top-class (oh, and the movie itself was pretty damn good:). It struck me as strange while reading the credits that the film was shot on Kodak but distributed on Fuji. Hope new years went relatively smoothly for you all... Cheers, - Dave David A. Mann, B.E.
