"Background" hills are the Sutter Buttes. Located in Sutter Co., CA, they are considered "The Worlds Smallest Mountain Range." Years ago, when I asked what defines a mountain range, the immediate local answer was, "their size is sufficient enough to generate their own weather". True or not, they certainly do that.
