When I worked for startup companies, there were smokers at every level of the company in most cases. We tended to get a lot of work done having a smoke and making an impromptu "cross functional team" just long enough to solve a problem in the smoking area. I could get the CFO, Mgr of Development, dev team lead, tech support, project mgt, and the salesman for the account all together at once and metaphorically beat their heads together until they came up with something useful.
