I want to mention a situation that I recently experienced & the assistance I
got from another list member - Bob Walkden, in London.
I located a lens I was interested in - FA 28-70mm f2.8, on a popular (?) web
forum. After arriving at an acceptable price, I emailed Bob & asked if he
would be able to act as the go between for me in this purchase.
I didn't want to use Paypal, & would wire the money to Bob, he would arrange
to meet the seller, examine the lens (represented as 95% of as new
condition) & make the transaction. I asked Bob to approach this transaction
as if he was buying the lens himself.
Bob emailed me with the results of the meeting last night. Basically the
seller was lying about the condition of the lens & didn't think my
representative would be as photographically knowledgeable as Bob. The lens
had an internal glass crack, visible with the use of a flashlight! (the
posted images of the lens were not sharp, possibly hiding this defect), Bob
relayed that the seller didn't show surprise when the defect was pointed out
to him.
Needless to say, I am profoundly appreciative of his efforts & wanted others
on the list to be aware of the caliber of individuals on this list!
