Definitely something more comfortable - probably the Indian Pacific one way with car then a slow driving return across the Nulla. My wife spent her teenage years in Fremantle and is keen to see how much it has changed (we're talking 40 years!). She has fond memories of the southern coast, particularly around Albany, and Kalgoorlie.
