thanks,  but I am pretty sure that wont work, the 18%
figure is a reflectance figure, not light source.
I want to do fstop vs macro magnification charts with
the on camera flash to the 18% card.

If your monitor is calibrated, I'm sure there is some way to have it  
display an 18% grey. If it's a laptop, you can always have one with you.

On the other hand, you could buy one for a few bucks. I bet on eBay  
you could find a Kodak Pocket Reference book (used). The include an  
18% grey card and a color swatch card.
