This is one of my favourite lenses. It's fast, light, very sharp and easy
to focus. The manual focus is a little 'lighter/easier/less damped' than
a manual focus lens would be, but it's quite useable.

It's good for portraiture, even really close up. See
http://www.diaspoir.net/obc/irish-eyes.jpg for an example.

Sadly, it happens everywhere. Not just gun-control, but any hot-button
topic like abortion, religion, politics, Operating Systems, etc. The only
way to deal with it is to use your willpower to refrain from commenting or
use your filters to ensure that you don't see it. I prefer the latter
approach as then I don't have to rely on my feeble willpower. Arguments
for or against contribute to heating up the debate and reminders of how
off-topic it is bring out the old 'net nazi' / 'net cop' insults.

It's a road better not travelled down.

That's what we're all here for. If anyone wants to debate *any* hot
button topic, they can go find an appropriate forum. Standing on a street
corner shouting at passers-by is always good.
