I remember that building very well from my days commuting on the F
train. The clock on the tower didn't work back then, and it's inaction
always reminded me of the Mama and Papa's song "Twelve-
Thirty." ("...and a clock that always says twelve-thirty").
The building is known as "the Willy" or, more correctly, the
Williamsburgh Savings Bank. It is in Brooklyn. It was built in 1929,
and remained a bank and office building until 2006. It's now being
converted into luxury condos, which is a fate far superior to that of
many older buildings. Some nice pics of this architectural delight can

Lovely light, very pre-war look to the sign and much of the
neighbourhood. Too bad about that ugly contemporary building in the
shot (what can you do?).
What's that lovely art deco/art nouveau looking building to the left
of the green-windowed monstrosity? Any idea?
