I've been asking around about this photo, because I just
can't decide
what to think of it:
http://www.neovenator.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=888
60% of people asked say the out-of-focus area adds to the
overall photo.
30% say it detracts.
5% have no opinion either way.
5% hate flower photos.
I look at the photo and love how sharp the flower is. The
background
bokeh seems a little harsh, but at the same time it
doesn't bother me
that much. This was shot in 2006 with a cheapass Sigma
28-80 macro zoom
lens on my old *istD.
What do you think? I wonder if it would benefit from
digitally
softening up the bokeh.
John
What bothers me about the image is the abrupt transition from the
extremely sharp flower to the extremely out of focus stem below the flower.
The bokeh is generally ugly, but it's most apparent in the abrupt
transition on the stem.
