The MetroLink rail system runs from East St. Louis, across the Mississippi River, through St. Louis and out to Lambert Airport, with a spur to the western suburb of Shrewsbury. It is an excellent service, and crowded even on a Saturday. It is mostly above ground, but has occasional tunnels or tunnel-like stations in cuts:
