Oh boy. Who gets to maintain the FAQ? This should be the first update. 77mm: Very compact, 1/2 a stop slower, probably a bit sharper at infinity focus. I don't focus much at infinity, so I don't know for certain. Bokeh is more 'normal'. Color and flare resistance is very good. 85mm: Big, 1/2 a stop faster. Has unusual bokeh which has been debated on this list for as long as I've been here. I like it, but it *is* a bit unusual. Color and flare resistance are good...color seems to be more neutral than the 77. Some people say this lens sucks at infinity, but like I said, I hardly ever shoot there. If I did, I'd probably be well stopped down. My feeling is you should get the 77 unless you need the speed or want to minimize DOF. I have both and have no plans to get rid of either. I tend to use the 85 since I like it's 'look', but carry the 77 when I'm traveling light. One more thing...we tend to think of them as interchangeable, but they *are* different focal lengths. tv - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
