The choise would depend on what you plan to potograph. If you do a lot of 
portraits and close-ups, the  77mm ist the better choise. If you do a lot of 
landscape, you should go for the 31mm.

I certainly have used the 77mm the most. For portraits and flowers.
They are both fine lenses, but my need for a 31th is really limited, and after 
all - a standard zoom - say 28-70mm will cover that angle quite well. For 
portraits and close ups the hight quality of the 77mm will be graatly 
appreciated.
