A 1270 isn't really a previous generation. It's true that it's been superceded by the 1280, but the image quality difference is so minimal that testers are having a hard time detecting it, and lots of 1270 owners are not considering upgrading. Also, if anyone wants to be amazed by what the current generation of digital p/s can do, check out the new Nikon 5000.
