There's nothing wrong with cliches - there's a reason why many
people take the same kind of shots. For one thing it lets you
judge yourself (or your equipment) against a known standard,
without ending up with boring shots of brick walls and the like.
For example, here's one I took this afternoon for just such a
purpose (exactly what purpose is left as an exercise :-):

(spring here in California has mostly got beyond daffodils)
Then, of course, there's the fact that the pics just look nice.
I prefer the tulip shots, in general, to the daffodils.
