Just got it. First impression is good, except for zoomcreep.
Pentax Norway claims it to be a Pentax design.. Could be right, but could 
also be wrong. I dunno, and I don't care :-) Basically I think you can 
concider it as the same lens as the Tamron version. I got a good deal on 
mine, otherwice I would have bought the Tamron instead.

As I said. So far, I haven't really tested it. Light has been bad lately. 
But judging from a little playing aroud it seems to be optically ok. At this 
point I would judge it on par with, or perhaps a bit better than the kit 
lens.  Exception from this is distortion. Thats bad at 18mm to, let us say, 
22mm. Edges are soft and lacks contrast at the long end. But centre is 
acceptable for non critical photography.
Except for the zoom creep handling seems ok too. Construction seems good, 
with no wobling when zoomed out. Focus is rather loud. And it deffinately 
needs good light to focus at the long end. Focus is ok, in short and medium 
end.

I concider it a walkabout lens for the occations when I will not be bothered 
with more than one lens.
