I purchased an *ist D last March when the price of the body only dropped to $400 on Amazon (through Cameta). I already had a K100D, my first DSLR, purchased in September 2006. I picked the *ist D up to use as a second body and to keep at work -- I also had the idea that while I may someday replace the K100D, there might be some historical and collector satisfaction in having Pentax's first DSLR.
As per John's note below, does anyone else use the FA 28/2.8 as the main lens or one used most often on the Pentax DSLRs? I often choose it for the slightly wider field of view than the 35/2 even though it's a stop slower (I have the 21/3.2 as well). I thought having the 21 and the 35 would mean that I wouldn't use the 28 as much, but I often find it's either the perfect choice (or the perfect compromise).
