I would never used hacked firmware in my cameras. That's a very risky business IMO. I depend upon my cameras...
My DA21 is one of the first available and it has no focusing issues. I recall a longish thread on DPReview forum where it seems there is a step in the focusing algorithm based upon the aperture setting of the DA21. Focusing behavior might be different if its stopped down vs nearly wide open. I don't know the truth of this, I did the test according to the schema someone presented and couldn't find any evidence of misfocusing.
