If Pentax USA do not think that they can sell the silver MZ-S or the
black MZ-3 in quantities to make importing them worthwhile, they won't.
It's just good business.

The brochure issue sounds pretty funny. Could the guys you're buying
the cameras from not supply you with the brochures? Pentax give them
brochures by the truckload.

I'm curious as to why you're being so insistent on contacting someone at
Pentax. Chances are, the people in the office are not the product reps,
since the product reps spend most days out on the road visiting stores.
The product reps are the people who are paid to know the ins and outs of
the system. By bypassing them and calling Pentax HQ, you're getting
their secretarial staff or their accountants.

Again, the person you're making pains to contact is not the person who
would know about such things. And really, asking that all the staff at
Pentax USA read the PDML daily is just a little much, don't you think?

Yes. Aside from Pentax Japan, all other Pentaxes are simply
distributors. They decide how much of what to bring in, after Pentax
Japan tells them what is available and how many they have to buy to get
the stuff. If Chuck is not a product rep or the person who makes
purchasing decisions, the likelihood of him knowing of a product that
Pentax USA are not bringing in is close to nil.

Yep. You'd probably get a better answer by getting the store you
purchase from to ask their Pentax rep.

Japan. If Pentax USA can't move a couple of hundred of them (or if they
don't think they can), to bring them in would be positively foolhardy.

I can understand the desire to speak to the person at the top...but it
just doesn't always pay, or even make sense. I had a customer who only
wanted to speak to me, and absolutely refused to talk to Bry, who was at
the counter. I had to stop what I was doing and come out to the front,
and he proceeded to tell me all about what exactly he wanted done to
this colour print he was having made. I listened, and then said, "Okay,
well, I'm going to let you describe this to Bry, who is our colour
printer."

He said, "Oh, I wanted you to do it."

I said, "Me? I suppose I could, but Bry is a much better printer than I
am."

He looked at me like I was trying to get rid of him, so I continued.

"Why would I hire someone who wasn't at least as good as me? I'd have
to continue doing all the work myself, but make less money because I'd
be paying someone to stand around."

That he believed. Thank God, too, because by that point I was so rusty
in the colour darkroom I'd probably take a day to make his print.
