I have one also...and I love it! For some, it's a step
back...no SMC....no "auto" function. But for me, it
improves my "photographers mind"...it forces me to be
conscious of the source of lighting (to avoid
flare)....it gives me the DOF (when I have to manually
stop down the lens, prior to shooting)....it slows me
down....and makes me think.."How can I make this photo
better, through composition, lighting, etc?" I find
the optical quality very good...just like all the
