I do teacher I do.....

The one about the fishermen finding a particularly good fishing spot and
when asked how he could find it
again he replied he had marked the side of the boat.

But I have a real Newfy joke - well, perhaps not so very funny but after
the third of three incidences
that occured when I visted there over 25 years ago I was beginning to
believe the unpc Newfy bashing
had some merit (as jay Leno would say, Don't write me letters, this is
all in fun )

(1) playing Scrabble with a Newfoundlander on the ferry to Argentia. my
op is a Newfy - We play maybe 7 or 8 games,
all of which I've won... then the last game he finally manages to get
off to a good start playing CLIENTS with two blanks
(blanks, for you non scrabblers, are tiles you can make any letter you
wish and playing all seven tiles gets you 50 bonus points - there are
only two in a set of tiles - the most valuable tiles in the set) As he
puts down the word and I comment on the
blanks he says he considered passing and throwing one of them back....

(2) The cab driver who drives me to the city from the ferry terminal
observes my camera - says he had
a whole roll of film that was blank... I try to help saying, hmm, did
set the ASA wrong? did you check to
see if the film was advancing? ETc... nono, that wasnt it -- he had not
removed the lens cap.

(3) my waitress in a restaurant and I are chatting a bit... I'm writing
in my journal... I suddenly draw a
(mental) blank about port and starboard and she has told me she is
married to a sailor. So I ask her which
is which and she has no clue what I'm talking about.

My apologies to smart Newfies
