Thanks to you both. It was in the Mitre at Shaftesbury, where they serve a very good pint. The view from the garden is nice too: http://www.web-options.com/Byway/content/_6185584_large.html. Great spot to sit and chat over a pint while the shadows lengthen. In fact, all the pubs I went in on that trip served great beer, mostly fairly local brews such as Badger and Ringwood, and at the Bell Inn in Wyley (built in 1373) they have about 7 different beers from the Hidden Brewery only 2 miles away. It's superb beer, although entirely the wrong thing to have for lunch immediately before trying to cycle up a Down. On which note, I made the mistake of asking for directions in one of the villages, and was told (West Country accent): You go right down up over. Gee, thanks.
