I really don't understand why Sony and Philips are pushing this way using of their lesser rewriting technology - I mean DVD-RW, which contrary to DVD-RAM standard is less durable (1000 write cycles vs 100.000), less user friendly (-RAM unlike -RW can be used just like a removable disk) and less reliable (-RAM verifies recording directly during write, -RW needs separate verify process after writing entire disc). That's too bad :-( Fortunately most of the manufacturers (LG, Samsung, Pioneer, Lite-on) makes their drives perfectly compatible with -RAM discs.
