Before Lightroom 1.0 and Camera Raw v3.7 were released, I captured
exclusively in RAW/DNG format. The K10D's DNG format is uncompressed,
however, so now that my primary tools are capable of reading both PEF
and DNG, I capture in RAW/PEF and then convert on import from the
card to DNG format. That means on a 2G card I have room for 20-30
more exposures and on disk I take up the least space (and don't have
to manage sidecar .xmp files).

It has been shown that PEF in camera slows down sequence capture by a
small but measurable percentage, likely the extra processing time
required for compression coming into play, so if you're doing a lot
of sequences you'll get a tiny bit better performance with RAW/DNG
setting.
