With the AF400T in particular the alkalines quickly fade to a lengthy recycling time
for a full power discharge. From a initial recycle time of about 10 seconds they drop
off to 15-16 seconds after 40 flashes. In contrast my Kodak NiMHs (about 1500mAh) give
7 seconds at the start and drop off to 8.5 to 9 seconds after heavy usage.

That said I've bought a TR power pack and my experience with regular alkaline
Duracells (C-size) is about 6 seconds vs. 4 seconds (again for full power) with the
Duracell Ultras which claim to be optimized for heavy current drains. Can't say what
the total # of shots would be. Probably well over 250.

BTW the 510 volt batery is a plain carbon zinc a relic from the days of tube based
portable radios. These need to be kept refrigerated to preserve their capacity. I used
to use these with an old Honeywell Strobonar, but they beacame increasingly difficult
to find and expensive to buy.
