[Detailed critique follows....]
Hi Frank,
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment -- this is exactly the kind
of detailed critique that is so helpful as part of the learning process in
trying to improve one's photography. I think it's perfectly fair. Your
comments are consistent with some other ones I received earlier in the month
from Doug Franklin and Paul Stenquist. Too much clutter, no central object,
and so forth. One of the problems I had last month in selecting my
submission from this group was that I didn't really feel that any of them
stood on their own. I had an idea of what I wanted to capture on the
morning I made these photographs, but I feel like I missed the mark this
time. I got some good ideas for future shots thanks to Doug's and Paul's
comments. Your comment on the sidewalk graffiti is especially helpful --
it's already got me thinking about better ways to capture and convey the
message I was aiming for. The photoessay idea is an excellent one. I
reviewed the proofs again a couple weeks ago and selected a few shots for a
photoessay. I think I still have some technical errors in these (lighting
is generally flat, and focus on a few of the proofs is not as sharp as it
could be), but it may convey a better story. I'll let you know where and
when I put these up -- I'd appreciate your comments at that point.
Thanks again for the detailed critique.
