What makes you think that I don't understand why you beleieve the bombings were
preferable to an invasion of the main islands of Japan?

In a subsequent message you, Dan, are saying to Maris:

"I did not start this sub-discussion. As long as people on this list continue
to bring it up in a negative fashion, I shall feel compelled to respond. Why
anyone would mention that in the context of the current tragedy escapes me, but
I'm sick and tired of hearing from those who were not faced with a long and
bloody war against a well-trained an highly motivaated Japanese army on their
home soil criticize the US for making the difficult and painful decision that
it had to make."

This is obviously directed at me. I am, in three instances, being criticized for
statements or opinions I have not expressed.

1) Will you please explain to me the "negative fashion" in which I have continued to
bring up this discussion?
2) You say it escapes you why anyone would mention that in this context. Why don't you
check (or simply ask) before you attack somebody?
3) You say that you are sick and tired of hearing [me (in this case)] criticize the US.
Please explain to me and the list where, when and in which words I have criticized the
US?

(Personally I can tell you that I am sick and tired of being attributed and accused of
saying things I never said and being of opinions I never have expressed.
One tells me that I am full of shit for being of a different opinion, another say that
I am painting Americans as evil monsters for simply reporting a historical fact and a
third one groundlessly attacks me for criticiczng the US, while I have not passed a
single (moral or other) judgement on the US in any way or fashion.)
