You cannot 'get rid' of ownership permissions on any modern operating  
system. Ownership permissions are an embedded part of how the  
operating system functions. This is just as true of Windows XP as it  
is of Mac OS X, Linux and UNIX.

You need to configure the system so that you have access to the files  
you want without permissions getting in your way. Someone better  
versed in configuring Windows XP will have to respond on that basis.
