Or, in my mind, another annoyance is those who post
their reply *above* the relevant material, so one has
to scroll down to see what they are referring to, then
scroll back up to see their observations.

MS Outhouse says the reply goes above the earlier
message, so that must be the "right" way to do it...

I won't be putting my replies above the quoted
material. My email program doesn't think that is the
right way to do it, and I agree with my email program.
I prefer to trim the headers and snip irrelevant parts
of the original message, then reply below the trimmed
post. If I think my trimming might lose too much
context, I add a "snip" line to show I have trimmed the
message.

People read from top to bottom, not from bottom to top.
One does not put the postscript before the narrative,
then hope someone understands the postscript by
continuing down to read the narrative.
