In aperture priority mode set whatever exposure you want but make sure that shutterspeed don't exceed the synch speed. 2. Turn the command dial one click to the right, then one click stop to the left. (This is done with a twist of the thumb). Now you have locked the metered value for the ambient exposure. You can of course set any value you like for the ambient exposure - not only the metered one. 3. Dial in desired flash compensation with the exposure compensation dial. 4. Shoot as many shot as you want. If you want to vary the ambient exposure just do so by directly dialing in desired exposure; all you have to worry about is that the exposure bar in the viewfinder read the desired flash compensation, say, -1,5 stop from the set exposure. 5 When finished reset exposure compensation and press green button. Z-1p: 1. In aperture priority mode set whatever exposure you want but make sure that shutterspeed don't exceed the synch speed. 2: Turn dial (1) to flash symbol. 3. Press button (2) on dial (1) 4. While doing step 3. above, turn dial (3) until desired exposure compensation is achieved. 5. Shot as many shots as you like. If you want to vary the ambient exposure press exposure compensation button (4). While doing this turn dial (4) until desired exposure compensation is reached. Alternatively; turn dial (1) to the mode setting. Scroll with dial ...etc to manual mode. Set the desired exposure. 6. When finished, turn dial (1) to flash symbol. Press button (2) on dial (1). While doing this turn dial (3) until desired exposure compensation is achieved - in this case zero. In my opinion moving flash compensation to the flash was a wise move. The strenght of the Z-1p over the MZ-S when using the 500FTZ flash is if you want to use flash compensation in program mode. Pl - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
