My local repair shop seems to think that the mirror bumpers they can order
from Japan are the same ones that Pentax made years ago, and they said
that some of the "new" ones are just as gummy as the ones that have been
in cameras. I don't necessarily believe what they say, though. :)

And for about $120 CAN I had the mirror rest replaced, the ISO resistor
changed, and a general CLA done. That's until the shop discovered that
the sticky mirror was not being caused by the rubber mirror rest as usual,
but by some piece hidden up in the mirror box. To fix that would have
cost upwards of $300 CAN, very likely. I gather from this that there's at
least two different bumpers that can become gummy... one right out in the
open and inexpensive, and one in a more inaccessible place. FWIW, I
decided not to have it repaired (just changed the lower mirror rest), and
it seems to be working fine now, probably because I use it all the time.
