Hey all you B & W afficianodos:
If you haven't tried the pyro developer (Hutching's PMK formula), it is 
a wonderful developer. I've made  some architectual  detail shots and 
the accutance or edge definition,  or whatever you wish to call it, is 
quite remarkable. I've  used  some "fine grain" developers like Microdol 
 and this seems to be even  finer, from my first  few rolls.
I've also tried it souping HIE, with  disastrous  results, but I'm sure 
I'll find the right combination of EI, temp and development time eventually.

Side note to Mike Johnston: I read  what you wrote. Someone else told 
 me  D76 1:1. But, I  guess, I too,  have to learn  the  hard way; but 
if you wish to send  me all of  your results of the myriad trials you've 
 already done, that would be OK
