Are you sure about that USA thing. I've never heard it before (which of course doesn't mean it isn't so!).

I disagree quite strongly with this, Cotty. If we are within our rights
there should be no need to get round the restrictions by underhand methods
or my asking for permission - the restrictions shouldn't be there, and
interfering busybodies should keep their noses out of other people's
business.

I know you're in a different situation to the rest of us in that you must do
whatever you can pragmatically, rather than stand up for your rights but
miss the story. In general though we would be letting the bastards get away
with it if we took the approaches you recommend.

Points taken.

In principle I agree, but I'm also pretty much for the line of least
resistance.

Especially when it comes to being arrested. I was once told that I am to
be arrested before I give up a camera tape to the police. Not that that
situation would likely arise in this day and age, although it has
happened (not to me) prior to the 1980s. However, I have determined that
I am not prepared to be arrested for the sake of my editor's principles.
Why? Because (as I understand it) having been arrested (and even
released without charge) means I cannot (for instance) visit the USA
again, amongst many other things.

So I'm afraid I'm a bit of a mercenary.

Cheers,
  Cotty
