Brian, Yep, I have used the UFRaw program. It is good. From what I understand, it is based on dcraw as is the Vuescan converter and many others. I have since put the dcraw converter into the Gimp as a plugin which is a bit faster. In all cases, the pentax raw file comes out flat (colors washed out, a bit dark) but is easy to improve with automatic curve adjustment (in UFRaw I believe).
The souce I am using to learn the program is called Grokking the Gimp and easily available on the Internet. Seems to be very complete and easy to follow. I am using the Windows version of the Gimp which has worked well for me so far. I guess I like using the odd program - and - dammit - I am using Firefox and not IE;) Gotta love tab browsing! Another example with wonderful plugins (the adblock and flashblock well worth the switch). As the name suggests it's a RAW file converter and it does support Pentax PEF.
