Thanks, Paul. The previous owner of my lens made a crude adapter out of 1/8" thick steel plate. It offset the mount several inches and made for better balance, but looked like hell. I threw it out. Amazingly, I saw a similar contraption with the same lens on Ebay. It's just a poorly thought out lens design. I have a fairly long Kirk plate on mine, and I'm sure the one that Bill R has is even longer.
