        I'm curious, how fresh were the batteries?  I had problems with overlapping
frames on my PZ the one time I tried to see what it would do when the
battery ran down.  In my case, it reached the end of the film near the end
of the wind-on cycle but didn't realize it was there and allowed me to take
another (overlapping) shot.  It did realize that it needed to rewind after
the shot (and just barely had enough power to accomplish the task).

        Incidently, I thought the thing counted sprocket holes or something.  If
so, it shouldn't be possible for it to misadvance the film without noticing,
no matter what the state of the batteries.  Have you checked the sprocket
hole emitter/detector -- maybe there's a fleck of dirt confusing it?
