you better ask the computer pro's here on the list ;-)

have a look at "regcompactnet" at
http://www.experimentalscene.com/?type=1&id=regcompact.
It is freeware and simple to use.

But it has to be said clearly:

Don't mess with the registry if not necessary. It will not bring a lot
performance wise to clean out
unused and obsolete entries. Do not even think about deleting entries
manually without knowing e x a c t l y
what you do! Even then, a registry backup before doing anything is a must.

Look for a freeware tool like "startup.cpl" to delete unnecessary programs
starting with windows again only if you know what you do. That can improve
performance since a lot of programs add themselves or parts of them to the
startup procedure.
