Thank you Mark, You are a prim(e)rose :-) Have thanked you off list, but want to express my gratitude public too.
I am impressed. Impressed by two things. First the thing that you have made time to test out this combination, for me a new member of the list. A troublesome member too ;-) I'm also impressed by the quality of this rather cheap lens combo. Ritch colours, contrast lookes ok, there are good details both in center and corners, the bokeh also lookes rather pleasant. The only "error" I see is a bit of CA(?), but nothing I can't live with. I'm not sure CA is the correct term, what I see is something purple here and there. Using a monpod I am rather convinced it will do the job at the socker event, if the light don't fail me. This combination is a bit on the slow side. I'm also looking forward to test it out on the seabirds I have near my house. Bird people claim there are at least 37 different species. I believe they haven't been documented photographically before. These birds are threathened by a very dangerious speciment, people with money, who wants more money (meaning building ugly shoping centers). A documentation might slow them down. You're a prime! Here's more: Actual photos! I did a very quick shoot in the garden last night. Light was getting low so I just got off a couple of shots at 210mm (that's 357mm with the teleconverter, the equivalent of 535mm on a film camera!), 1/8th second and f/4.5 (f/7.7 because of the teleconverter) with the camera resting on the arm of a chair. There was a bit of a breeze, but I selected the 100% crop area from a group of plants that seemed to be pretty motionless and that were within the very thin depth of field. Here's the full frame (the entire scene), resized for the web: http://www.robertstech.com/temp/fullfram.jpg Here's a 100% crop (actual pixels): http://www.robertstech.com/temp/crop.jpg I converted the RAW files in Photoshop. Very small amount of unsharp mask applied after conversion. Given the relatively wide aperture, DOF and the long exposure time, I'm *very* impressed with the results. I'll have to try some tripod-mounted shots with smaller apertures soon. -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
