Hi Dave,
Interesting shot. My first reaction was that it would be improved in B&W,
but the more I looked at it the more I thought the muted colors enhance the
mood and the feel of this one. Two concerns, though: first that blank sky
does nothing for the photograph. While I know you've gotta work with
what's given to you, there are probably several ways you could have
improved the sky, Second, a little more "air" around the building would be
nice. It's framed/cropped too tightly on the sides.
This is a pic that needs to be shot with the camera mounted on a tripod and
the right angle and intensity of the sun to bring out the sharpness and
detail of the weathered boards, and maybe even some detail in the dark
shadows. If you can get morning or evening sun here, the pic may be
greaqtly improved. Shooting this as a snow scene sounds like a great idea,
and should lend the scene to several creative interpretations. When you
get back up there, bring LOTS of film, and photograph the old building from
several perspetives and throughtout a long enough period so you can
experience the light on the building as it changes. Bring a thermos of
coffee or hot chocolate ;-)) This one's got some real potential.
